Urban College of Boston proud to accept Workforce Development Grant from Massachusetts Life Science Center (MLSC) to boost science education

Urban College of Boston is pleased to announce its receipt of a significant Workforce Development Grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC), as part of a recent funding initiative totaling over $13 million. This grant positions Urban College among the twenty esteemed institutions awarded funding to advance life sciences, workforce development and STEM education.

The grant will support the development and launch of Urban College’s Science Simulation Laboratory & Curriculum (SSLC) Program. This new project will establish a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory on Urban College of Boston’s campus, located in Chinatown, enhancing the institution's ability to offer cutting-edge science education. As a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islanders Serving Institution (AANAPISI), Urban College is committed to fostering educational opportunities for typically underserved communities.

Founded in 1993 by Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), Urban College of Boston has consistently championed accessible education. With accreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), Urban College is renowned for its supportive and multilingual approach to education, serving students from diverse backgrounds and preparing them for career advancement.

The MLSC funding will significantly bolster Urban College’s science offerings, particularly for students pursuing associate degrees. The SSLC program will enhance the college's Science and Technology curriculum, addressing critical skills gaps and expanding the capacity to meet the growing demands of Massachusetts’ life sciences sector. Urban College is ideally positioned to contribute to the state’s thriving industry.

The new simulation laboratory will be instrumental in developing advanced pedagogical practices and providing students with practical and hands-on experience in the sciences. This initiative reflects Urban College’s mission to open new pathways to opportunity and transform lives through individualized and supportive education.

Urban College of Boston is honored to partner with MLSC in this pivotal project, which will undoubtedly strengthen the college’s role in preparing a diverse and skilled workforce for the future.
